Little Weed

LITTLE Keiran Ellis, of Slindon, has watched his sunflowers grow bigger and bigger and bigger, until one of them is now 12ft tall and he has to crane his neck to see it.

The four-year-old has, twice a week without fail, brought his tape measure to his grandad and grandmother s house in Arundel, where they are planted, and measured his prize blooms progress.

It all started when Keiran s mum bought him a BBC television Bill and Ben magazine in the spring, and there, carefully taped to the front in a little pot, were four sunflower seeds.

Keiran s grandad, Henry Carver, of Pearson Road, said: Keiran asked if I would grow the seeds for him and now the biggest one is 12ft.

He came over twice a week with a tape measure and always wrote the measurements in a little book.

Three of the four seeds grew and Keiran has named the plants Bill, Ben and Weed, after the magazine/television characters.
