Littlehampton incident: man arrested following large emergency response

Sussex Police said officers were called at 2.30pm on October 20 to 'respond to concerns for the welfare of a woman and a man' in Norfolk Road, Littlehampton.

It sparked an apparent search, as police said they had 'located the woman and established that she is safe and well'.

At that time, 'specialist officers' were 'on scene and were working to ensure the man's safety', police said.

At 7pm yesterday, the man, aged 29, was found and 'safely arrested' on suspicion of assault, a force spokesman added.

He was in custody for interview and further enquiries, police said this morning (September 21).

The fire service were also at the scene to aid the police operation.

A spokesman for the fire service confirmed they attended, but would not comment on the nature of the incident as police were leading the response.
