Littlehampton Rotary Club donates wheelchair to Worthing Hospital

THE wheels of generosity quickly started turning when a rotary member’s relative told how her recovery at Worthing Hospital had been speeded up by the use of specialist equipment.

A special wheelchair in the physiotherapy department allowed the relative to sit up for longer periods in the early stages of her treatment, greatly improving her progress.

However, as the wheelchair was not standard equipment, the physiotherapy department had only the one available, and so, on some days, patients had to use more basic equipment instead.

Hearing about the need, the Littlehampton Rotary Club decided to help by donating another specialist chair and community service chairman John Mitchell placed the order.

And now John and club president Mike Findlay have visited the physio department to present the chair, worth £1,500.

Mike said, “We are delighted to be able to present this wheelchair to Worthing Hospital. It is yet another example of the good use of monies made from our charity shop in Rustington.”

Physiotherapy staff are delighted with the donation, which will be a vital addition for patients.

Miria Putkonen, the head physiotherapist in the inpatient neuro unit, said, “We really appreciate this donation from the Rotary club.

“It will certainly be put to good use and the whole inpatient physiotherapy department and future inpatients will benefit from your donation.”
