Local dogs to benefit from charitable football league in Bognor

Europe's largest provider of 'small-sided' football is starting up a charitable league in Bognor '“ and local dogs are set to benefit.

Leisure Leagues will launch the scheme in the coming weeks, and as with all its leagues, all profits will go to national charities and environmentally-sustainable projects.

One of the more local causes to benefit from Bognor's new venture will be the Dogs Trust which has campaigned for canine welfare for more than 100 years. It has a centre in Shoreham, West Sussex.

Leisure Leagues' deputy senior manager and dog-lover Lee Wilcox said he was proud to be a part of the scheme.

He added "I am delighted that we are in a position to help ensure a safe and happy future for our four-legged friends."

The trust, formed in 1891, pledges never to put down a healthy dog, and can boast more than 600,000 members across the country. It is entirely dependent on donations, and Leisure Leagues said it is happy to support the organisation with regular, substantial contributions.

League manager Shaun Biggs said "The trust find homes for over 10,000 dogs each year, and their regional campaigns across the country have made a real difference to the lives of so many dogs".

The league will run at The Arena 3G Pitches on Westloats Lane, on Monday evenings.

Shaun added: "The leagues are extremely popular, and we are always on the lookout to 'collar' more people to play in the competition.

"The standard of football in West Sussex is very high, and you could say it is one of the pedigree areas we run in across the UK. We are confident that all teams in the league will thoroughly enjoy it over the course of a season."
