Lord-Lieutenant of West Sussex appoints Deputy Lieutenants

THE Lord-Lieutenant of West Sussex has today (Monday, October 3) appointed three Deputy Lieutenants for the County of West Sussex.

Susan Pyper appointed Sally Gunnell OBE, Simon Knight and The Earl of Lytton as her deputies.

Ms Gunnell, from Steyning, won the 400 metre hurdles at the 1992 Olympic Games, in Barcelona.

She also set the world record in the same event when she won gold in the 1993 World Championships.

She is now a motivational speaker and involved in the organisation of the 2012 Olympic Games.

Mr Knight, from Petworth, is a former High Sheriff of West Sussex and a senior partner of Smiths Gore, a national rural property practice.

The Earl of Lytton, from Shipley, is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

He is currently president of the National Association of Local Councils.

In 2011 he was elected to the House of Lords, having previously been a member from 1985 to 1999.

Deputy Lieutenants are appointed by the Lord-Lieutenant at her discretion, subject only to the Queen’s approval.

Appointments are made in recognition of distinguished service to the community.

There are currently 41 Deputy Lieutenants in West Sussex.
