The port, ferry company and local partners are working with the government to try and arrange Covid-19 testing for the drivers already booked on sailings before Christmas, East Sussex County Council said.

Drivers with bookings, including those at the port, will be kept updated as this work goes on, the council added.

Hauliers booked on these services were contacted and told not to set out, East Sussex County Council said.

Sailings continue for unaccompanied freight trailers, the council confirmed.

A county council spokesman said: “The Sussex Resilience Forum is working as always with local transport operators and businesses to help keep the county moving and supplied.”
