A MAN found dead on Lancing beach has been remembered as ‘the most loving and caring dad, son and partner’.

Jason ‘Jay’ Carter, 26, was found hanged from a beach hut near Beach Green in Brighton Road, Lancing, on Sunday morning.

Leaving behind his son Leo, who will turn two-years-old next month, his partner Alex Green told the Herald that it has been terrible for the family, but he will ‘always be loved’.

“It’s the worst time of our lives. It’s horrific,” said the 23-year-old.

“I was at my parents’ house in Hanover on Sunday and his mum phoned me. She couldn’t talk, and I knew straight away and broke down.”

In honour of Jay’s memory, a community page was launched on Facebook where friends, family and even those that did not know Jay have left tributes.

“It’s overwhelming, to be honest,” said Alex. “I couldn’t believe it. He thought people didn’t care about him, but they’ve proved him wrong.

“There’s just so many people on there and it’s so nice,” she added.

One friend, Steve Wheatland, posted: “The street won’t ever be the same without seeing you every day working on something in your yard.”

Ann-marie Smith said: “You are going to be missed by many people.”

Jay lived in West Way, Lancing, with Alex and his son.

He worked as a mechanic in Portslade.

Alex continued: “He was the most loving, caring dad, son and partner. He will be missed and will always be loved.

“His mum said that she will always remember his smile and blue eyes.”

To give Jay a special send- off, Alex said a donation page has been set up to fund the funeral.

“A few people were saying that it would be a nice idea if we could get the money together to give him a proper send-off. I spoke to his mum and she agreed,” said Alex. “If people would like to help out, they can.”

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said the death of the 26-year-old man was not being treated as suspicious.
