At a council planning meeting last Wednesday, Ben Cheal, the managing director of Roffey Homes, said that only two hotel companies had declared an interest in the hotel, which makes up part of the ‘luxury’ beach residences project in Marine Parade.

Mr Cheal said: “My personal wish would, of course, have been the same as the committee and the regeneration manager, that a four or five star hotel or boutique hotel would have shown an interest. But the hotel market has changed over the last 40 years and we have to be realistic about this.”
