Seventy per cent of Brits are planning to tackle a project this weekend.
Whether it’s finally painting the kitchen or taming the garden – millions of us will be digging out the tools in a bid to improve our home and garden for the season ahead.
The research conducted by Homebase has revealed the top weekend tasks we’ll be undertaking in May and, if the weather plays ball, our gardens are set for an overhaul.
Leading the task list is mowing the lawn, followed by planting up pots and giving the patio a thorough clean so we can be ready to get out the garden furniture once the sun starts to shine.

We will be tackling a number of ‘inside’ jobs as well, as one in 10 will be wallpapering a room in the house and more than 1.6 million bathrooms are set to be re-tiled.
But don’t forget your paintbrush... the research has also revealed the most commonly forgotten tools of the trade.
The top 10 most commonly forgotten items to help with our weekend to do lists are:
1. Masking tape
6. Dust sheets
7. White spirit
Before you tackle the tasks, it’s worth being realistic about the time it takes to complete them as 89% of us admit that we underestimate how long it takes to complete a project in the home or garden. According to the poll, it takes us Brits on average just over an hour to properly mow the lawn, an hour and a half to clean the decking and over four hours to paint a room.
And that’s without the procrastination.
More than three-quarters of us admit to putting off projects in the home with 46% of us wasting up to a day before getting started!
