MAGAZINE: How to make sure your relationship survives the festive season

It’s supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year, but the festive season can put a huge strain on relationships.

New research by Slater & Gordon shows that almost a third of couples don’t look forward to this time of year, with a quarter admitting they argue more at this time of year than any other time of year.

Financial stress (24%), the stress of having to make it all perfect (16%) and spending too much time together (12%) top the list of the things most likely to cause arguments during the festive season.

Couples also say things like are likely to lead to tension heavy drinking (9%), ongoing family issues (9%) and personality clashes with in-laws (6%).

But the study also shows minor thing such as who does the cleaning up, deciding where to spend Christmas day and who does the cooking can also cause arguments.
