Man arrested over knife incident in McDonalds

A man was arrested after he was spotted carrying a kitchen knife in McDonalds.

Police were called to the branch in Wellington Place at around 10.20am on Sunday (August 21).

Eyewitnesses reported seeing terrified staff and customers, including children, fleeing from the fast food restaurant.

Officers arrived, tasered the man and he was arrested.

A long-bladed kitchen knife was found at the scene.

The 26-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife in a public place.

He has been questioned by police and released on bail until September 21, pending further enquiries.
