Man assaulted outside Worthing bookstore

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an assault and attempted robbery on a 49-year-old man in Worthing town centre last Monday.

The victim was outside Waterstones and Laura Ashley, off Montague Street, at 8.10pm, when he was approached by a man who punched him, kicked him and demanded his money.

Detective Constable Beccy Hopkins said: “Fortunately the victim wasn’t seriously hurt but he was very upset.

“We would particularly like to speak to two women who helped the victim or anyone else that witnessed the incident or may have any information which could help our investigation.”

A 25-year-old man from Worthing has been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and assault. He was questioned and released on bail until Saturday, September 13.
