Man assaulted in Worthing town centre

POLICE say a man who was punched in the face and knocked unconscious as he walked home from a night out was the victim of an unprovoked attack.

The man and a friend, both in their 20s, were outside Bar Release in Chapel Road, Worthing, at around 12.30am on Sunday, January 25, when the attack happened.

Sergeant Ian Kerr, of Worthing Police, said the pair eventually managed to get away and ran to the Subway take-away a little further down the road, where they "sought refuge".

Sgt Kerr said the attacker followed them, and stood outside the window of the take-away and tried to beckon the pair outside "for a fight".

He eventually left and the two men called the police.

The attacker was said to be part of a group of six men, who ran off through the Montague Centre towards McDonald's restaurant.

He is said to be a white man, of stocky build, with short hair and was wearing a white jumper.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0845 6070 999.
