Man attacked at hospital

A MAN has been banned from entering Sussex after a 63-year-old Lancing man was stabbed in the stomach and then attacked again at Worthing Hospital.

David Allonby, 28, who has no fixed address but is from Wigan, appeared before Chichester magistrates on Monday morning, charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

It is alleged he stabbed 63-year-old Thomas Stroud in the stomach at Mr Stroud's home in West Way, Lancing, at around 3.30am on Sunday, drove him to Worthing Hospital and then attacked him again by punching and kicking him while they were in the car park.

Allonby was bailed to appear back at Chichester Magistrates' Court on January 24. He entered no plea to the charges.

Bail conditions included not entering Sussex, except for court appearances, and not to contact Mr Stroud, directly or indirectly, and to report to police in Wigan, where he is staying, daily.

Police said Mr Stroud received seven stitches to the wound and was discharged from hospital on Monday morning.

Police spokeswoman Jill Ped-ersen said: "Police are appealing to any witnesses who may have seen an incident in West Way, Lancing, at around 3.30am, or anyone who saw a silver Vauxhall Corsa in the area, with two men inside, driving towards Worthing, to contact Shoreham CID on 0845 60 70 999."

A spokeswoman for Worthing Hospital said the incident in the car park was broken up by a security guard.
