Man found guilty of assaulting police

A MAN has been handed a £1,675 fine after being found guilty of five charges including assaulting two police constables.

Andrew Beaton, 45, of May Close, Worthing, appeared at Worthing Magistrates’ Court for sentencing on Monday.

The court heard all the crimes took place last year.

Beaton assaulted and obstructed a police constable and drove an Audi A4 in Goring Gap, Worthing, without third party insurance on April 19.

He then assaulted a different police constable and failed to take a breath test on April 20.

He pleaded not guilty to all the charges on April 22 last year but was convicted of all charges on April 3 this year.

He was given a 12 month community order with supervision and made to do 100 hours of unpaid work.

Ten penalty points were added to his licence, which left him with more than 12 points, meaning he was automatically disqualified for six months.

He was also made to pay several fines amounting to £770, with £850 costs, and a £55 victim surcharge.
