The incident took place at around 8pm on Thursday (10 March) when the victim was approached by a man and a woman while on a footpath between the fire station and South Farm Road, Worthing.

He was punched to the ground and suffered cuts to his hands after one assailant produced a knife during a struggle to find the cash.

The attempt failed and both suspects ran off in the direction of South Farm Road and Broomfield Avenue, having however stolen bank cards which were later found and returned to the victim.

A woman in her early 20s and a man in his early 30s are thought to have made the attack.

Detective Constable Jennie Hutchinson said: “We’d like to hear from anyone who saw this incident, noticed the suspects either before or afterwards or who may have any other relevant information.”

“They’re asked to email [email protected] or phone 101, quoting serial 1440 of 10/03, or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 on”

A 24-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man, both from Worthing, have been arrested on suspicion of robbery, interviewed and bailed until 26 April while enquiries continue.
