Andrew Eggington, of Brighton Road, Lancing, was frustrated to find that the broken and buckled railings at the bottom of Western Road, by Brooklands boating lake, had not been repaired since early last year.

Mr Eggington said he contacted West Sussex County Council through ‘Talk With Us’, a website that allows residents to report local issues.

“Just before Christmas I contacted Talk With Us to report the damaged railings and heard nothing back,” he said. Last month, Mr Eggington emailed district councillor Ann Bridges and urged her to contact West Sussex Highways.

“I thought that Ann would carry more weight to my request and get the repair underway,” said Mr Eggington. “She was good to her word and called them immediately,”

Mr Eggington said that, following Ann’s help and his own persistence, he finally received a call from highways officer Chris Whiting.

“He told me it was first picked up by the highways department last April,” said Mr eggington.

“Chris then went on to tell me they have found some money to repair the railing and it is being put on a priority job to the contractors, at the top of their list, and will now be done this financial year.”

Mrs Bridges said: “It is good to know that the county council does listen to complaints from the public, and on this occasion is going to do something.”

Mr Eggington said he is thrilled to have the railings repaired and added that he will continue to fight for Lancing issues and help the community.
