Linda McBride took on the marathon challenge, which was held on February 12, after her husband, Andy, experienced heart problems and needed a triple bipass operation.

Andy is recovering well with the support of the Cardiac Rehab Team at Worthing Hospital, so Linda decided to give the money to Cardiac Rehab Support West Sussex, a small local charity founded by local heart patients and their carers.

Cardiac Rehab Support West Sussex supports the Cardiac Rehab Department at Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and helps fund activities across West Sussex for those suffering - or recovering - from a cardiac condition.

Geoff Taylor, the treasurer of Cardiac Rehab Support West Sussex, described Linda’s efforts as a ‘remarkable achievement’.

He said: “Last year, the charity helped fund 25 education sessions, paid for two defibrillators, enabled NHS cardiac rehab staff to attend specialist training courses and trained cardiac volunteer ‘buddies’, and supplied a range of educational CDs and booklets for distribution in the area.

“But thanks to Linda and her supporters, we will be able to do even more.”
