Organised by Brett Mendoza, vice-chairman of the Robert Eaton Memorial Fund, the group will walk four miles from the Old Toll Bridge in Shoreham to the Worthing United ground in Lyons Farm today (September 12).

Mr Schilt, 23, and teammate Matt Grimstone, 23, were travelling to the Worthing United ground to play a match against Loxwood, when they were involved in the crash, which took the lives of 11 men on August 22.

The money raised from the walk will be presented to Worthing United Youth Football Club, which has been granted planning permission to build a training ground for young footballers - and will include ten football pitches of different sizes.

All the money raised in today’s walk will go towards the new training ground, helping to paying for goals, equipment, kit, pitch maintenance and eventually a new club house.

So far, more than £10,000 has been raised, with the Robert Eaton Memorial Fund topping up donations with £2,500.

Mr Schilt was heavily involved with the Robert Memorial Fund, which commemorates the life of a Brighton and Hove Albion fan killed in 9/11.
