Mobile mast on the move

MAYOR Jack Saheid has welcomed the effect of people power in getting the removal of at least one of Worthing's controversial mobile phone masts.

Borough planners will be asked at the end of this month to approve the switching of the Meadow Road depot mast to an alternative site at East Worthing waste water treatment works - further away from homes.

Mr Saheid, a Selden ward representative, told the Herald that he was one of those who joined residents' protests when the Meadow Road mast was first installed.

Phone company O2 has now agreed to re-site the unit with an upgraded, 17-metre high lattice mast with six antenna, two dishes, equipment cabinet and ancillary equipment.

"We have had several complaints from residents and I hope that they will now all be happy with the new location," said Mr Saheid.
