A 17-year-old student from Worthing was disqualified from driving for 18 months after pleading guilty to failing to provide a specimen of breath when she was stopped in Durrington just after 10pm on June 26.

Police officers had spotted a car being driven without lights. When it pulled up at a junction, the driver had difficulty starting off again, over-revving the engine and crunching gears. She was arrested on suspicion of drink or drug driving and taken to Worthing Custody Centre where she refused to take a breath test.

She appeared at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on August 6, where she also pleaded guilty to driving without a licence and without insurance. In addition to the disqualification, she was ordered to pay £25 costs and £15 victim surcharge.

Scientist Edward Hewitt, 45, Barley Close, Wallingford, Oxfordshire, was charged with driving a vehicle when alcohol above the limit, will appear at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on August 28.

He was arrested at 10.50pm on June 5 driving a Toyota Hilux in Avenue de Chartres, Chichester.

Nursing home worker Josie Williams, 20, of London Road, Hurst Green, Etchingham, has been charged with driving with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit. She was arrested after being stopped while driving a BMW 116 on the A27 Arundel Road at Patching at 5.15pm on June 8. She will appear at Worthing Magistrates on August 25.

Machine operator Nathan Payne, 38, of High Street, Partridge Green appeared before Worthing Magistrates, on Thursday, charged with driving a motor vehicle when alcohol above limit. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was bailed to attend a case management hearing at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on September 16.

He was arrested at 1.10am on June 14 while driving a Citroen Berlingo in Marine Parade, Worthing.

A total of 123 people have so far been charged with offences as part of the June 2015 Operation Dragonfly campaign.
