Martha Pusey from Aldingbourne Trust with her Best Practice Award

Martha was presented with the Best Practice Award at the annual West Sussex Care Accolades, where outstanding care workers took centre stage.

The awards are organised by West Sussex Partners in Care and supported by West Sussex County Council to recognise the hard work and dedication of people in a wide variety of jobs in adult social care.

Martha, who was delighted to receive her well-deserved award, was nominated for the work she does supporting people with dementia and learning disabilities.

She has worked for Aldingbourne Trust for nearly ten years and started in the residential projects, supporting adults with learning disabilities to live independently.

She rose to be manager of Milton Lodge, a residential property in Bognor Regis, and then turned her interest to supporting people with learning disabilities who have developed dementia.

Wishing to pursue this further, Martha achieved a masters degree in dementia studies.

She became chairman of Bognor and Chichester Dementia Action Alliance and now works tirelessly to deliver training and information about dementia across the county.

Sue Craig, who nominated Martha for the award, said: “Martha came into social care because she cares about people.

“This inherent value permeates throughout everything she does and is infectious.

“Martha demands high standards of herself but is unaware of the high esteem that others hold her in. Nothing is too hard in the quest for improved quality of life for service users.

“Martha chairs inspiring and motivating meetings of the Bognor and Chichester Dementia Action Alliance, attended by service users and families.”
