To be clear, the boundary box is the connection point for domestic waste to enter the mains sewerage system. It is still the responsibility of each householder to decide whether to invest in connecting their house to the mains via the boundary box or whether to carry on with their current arrangements. This will apply to the eligible properties on Church Road, Hoath Hill, Solomon’s Lane and the handful of properties on Eatenden Lane downhill from the Mines Road. The houses from 1 Eatenden Lane up will not require boundary boxes as their existing sewerage will be connected collectively to the new scheme. Southern Water will start to contact residents over the coming weeks to finalise details such as access.

FLOWER SHOW: Doors open at 2.30pm tomorrow (Saturday) for the Flower Show with the prize giving from about 4.15pm. We hope to be there but it depends what time our incoming guests for Butters Cottage arrive from Germany. Fingers crossed.

MOUNTFIELD CLUB: On Friday September 9, the club will be holding a Charity Darts and Shove night in memory of Wayne Hardy. Please note the change of date from last week’s announcement. The evening will start at about 7.30pm and is expected to be very well attended. There will be a £3 entry fee charged and all proceeds raised on the night will be going towards The British Heart Foundation.

The club is still keen to recruit more snooker and darts players for their forthcoming winter league teams. Please phone or text Steve Smith on 07720 298971 for further information. Also the Club will be running its snooker singles and pairs competition from mid-August, open to all members. Again, contact Steve. PARISH COUNCIL: The minutes of the Parish Council meeting on July 12 are now on the noticeboard and the parish website. As ever, it was a varied agenda. One effect of the road closures is that the school bus was dropping the youngsters off on the wrong side of the A2100, opposite the end of New Cut. Schools have broken up now but the problem is going to recur in September and a solution has to be in place by then. Potholes and repairs to local roads are no longer reported to County Highways but to Costains, having been outsourced. Our doughty Clerk, Irene, is not a happy girl as the new system is beyond the capacity of her dreadful broadband service. Unsurprisingly, she reported that other clerks on The Clerks’ Grapevine are also having similar problems. (More on road repairs below.) Also on the parish website is the Mountfield Planning Register that Irene maintains showing the status of all current and recent planning applications. If you go on to the website, you can sign up for alerts to all the new posts as they are added. One other subject discussed was the advertising free for all on the roundabout at John’s Cross. In particular, there was concern about that advertising van that was parked on the verge blocking drivers’ line of sight; this has now been removed.

A2100 CROSSING: We mentioned this in last week’s Village Voice. The Parish Council, through Irene, have been putting enormous pressure on Highways. Part of the problem is that they cannot do anything within 200 metres of the crossing without the authority of Network Rail so Irene has been pulling strings there too. The road southbound from the crossing is unusable by cyclists, very dangerous for motorcyclists, and an accident waiting to happen for everyone else including, potentially, railway passengers when slowing vehicles cause the traffic to back up across the tracks.
