The decision was made following a ‘dramatic increase’ in the number of items left in the memorial gardens.

The Spring Glade will be the first area to be cleared starting today. Items will be held in the Crematorium main office for collection until February 28; those not collected by then will be disposed of.

Sheila Howe, 50, of Pennycress Avenue, Durrington, regularly visits her father’s and sister’s plots at the crematorium, both of whom died last year.

She said: “I am disgusted that they are removing stuff put up there by people who are grieving.”
