MP backs school’s hall bid

Amber met head John Greenway and a group of governors at St Michael’s School to discuss the prospects of having a school hall built on the site.

She also met children in Years 5 and 6 who made a presentation to her, including video diary extracts showing the disruption caused to daily learning, particularly in planning for daily assemblies when chairs and tables have to be stacked and unstacked to accommodate all the children.

It also costs the school over £3,000 a year to send classes to another local primary school so that all the children get their basic entitlement to P.E.

Mr Greenway said: “The children also read aloud some persuasive letters which they had planned and written in a recent English lesson originally intended for Amber Rudd.

“The central message was that although we are a successful school the children felt disadvantaged compared to other schools. It was a message she took on board.

“On leaving she said she would make contact with the local authority to try to find out what their plans were.”
