MP “disappointed” after Government reshuffle

EAST WORTHING and Shoreham’s MP is “very disappointed” at being axed from his Government role.

Prime Minister David Cameron asked Tim Loughton to step down as minister for children yesterday (Tuesday, September 5) during a cabinet and minister reshuffle.

In a statement, he said: “Having held the brief for children and young people in opposition since 2001, and as minister since 2010 I am naturally very disappointed not be able to see through many of the reforms that we have been able to bring about in the last couple of years.

“We have made real progress in getting a better deal for children in care, in reforming the adoption system and making sure that young people have a real voice in their communities, and I very much hope that my successor will carry on this vital work.”

He added it had been a privilege to stand up for the interests of vulnerable children and young people, and that he was very much looking forward to carrying on this work from the back benches.

“The other advantage of being sacked is that I can now devote much more time to my fantastic East Worthing and Shoreham constituency that has inevitably suffered from such a busy ministerial diary,” he said.

Mr Loughton has been replaced by Elizabeth Truss, MP for South West Norfolk.
