POLICE arrested a man on suspicion of murder after the death of a woman at a Worthing property.

The ambulance service called police officers at 11am on Friday, after going to a property in Orme Road, Worthing, following reports that the woman was unconscious.

Police quickly joined paramedics at the scene, but the woman was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

She has been named by Sussex Police as 39-year-old Claire Louise Richards.

A post-mortem examination was carried out at Worthing Hospital on Saturday, but proved inconclusive, and her
death is currently being treated by officers as unexplained.

Police said further forensic tests were to be carried out in order to help establish the cause of death.

Next-door neighbour Charles Meanley, 67, said he spoke to the woman regularly, in passing.

He said: “She used to be only too pleased to talk to you. She was one of those chatterbox-type people.

“She was a person who mainly kept to herself, but I spoke to her in passing.

“I don’t think anyone else knew her well in the road, only to say hello.”
