MURDER UPDATE: Man stabbed to death in Durrington street fight

POLICE leading a murder inquiry in Durrington have revealed the 26-year-old victim was stabbed to death.

Emergency services were called to Shelby Road, Durrington, at 10.42pm last night (Friday, January 30) following reports of a fight in the street.

On arrival, they discovered a 26-year-old man had received multiple stab injuries.

He was taken to Worthing Hospital where he was pronounced dead at midnight.

He was a local man, but of no fixed address. His family have been informed. Flowers have already been placed at the scene for the victim.

Going on information received at the scene, police arrested a 19-year-old man from Durrington shortly after 11pm. He is being held in custody and questioned about the incident.

A murder investigation has been launched, led by Det Ch Insp Adam Hibbert of Sussex Police's Major Crime Branch.

DCI Hibbert has appealed for any witnesses to the incident or anyone with information about it to contact police quoting Operation Shefford.

The scene of the fight was today (Saturday, January 31) sealed off and forensic teams were scouring the area for clues.

Door-to-door enquiries have also been taking place.

Ch Insp Howard Hodges, district commander for Worthing, said: "There is obviously a lot of activity in the Shelby Road area involving scene of crime and forensic investigation.

"This is a routine response to a major incident and will continue for a while. If anyone has information or just wishes to talk to my officers on the cordon, they are very welcome to do so."
