NETBALL players from Vale First and Middle School have been finding success on the court.

The year six girls’ team from the school in Vale Avenue, Findon Valley, won The Worthing Schools Sports Association High 5 Netball Tournament in February, against eight other Worthing schools. And having won this, they went on to win the Southern Area High 5 Netball Tournament held last month, where they were up against five other schools.

Their success means they will represent the southern area in the Sussex Regional Finals on Monday at the K2 in Crawley.

The dedicated coaches are parents Lorna McKernan and Sarah Haywood, who give up their time to train and support the girls.

The team members are: Eve McKernan (captain), Katie Haywood, Georgia Cox, Jessica Turrell, Leah Nicholls, Caitlin Barnes, Imogen Barber, Lowri Powell and Rachel Usher.

Head teacher Martin Garratt said: “We are all really proud of the team.

“They are such good role models to other students and support each other with lots of encouragement when they play.”

Girls from the year five team were winners, too, at the Worthing Schools High 5 Netball Tournament that took place last month when eight teams from six schools took part.

The year five team members are: Nancy Haywood, Holly Gumbleton, Holly Young, Nancy Vincent, Rosie Turrell, Amelia Gravett, Elizabeth Hazelwood, Honey Tang and Amelia Standing.
