New 'affordable' homes for Worthing

WORTHING Homes is set to receive £615,372 from the borough council to help fund affordable accommodation in Brougham Road.

This money originally came from developers McCarthy & Stone, in lieu of the company providing affordable homes on its 65 leasehold retirement-flats scheme in Union Place, Worthing.

Fourteen flats '“ 12 two bedroom and two one bedroom '“ are being built by Worthing Homes on the Brougham Road site of the former Emmanuel Church, at the corner of Chatham Road.

The homes, which are expected to be completed in June, 2010, will be let to council nominees.

Demolition protest

Emmanuel Church was built only 31 years ago, as a "plant church" to St George's Parish Church.

There were many protests at the news it was to be demolished.

Sale proceeds of the site are being used for the future work of the church.
