New appeal for missing Durrington mother

A FRESH effort is being made to solve the longest missing person case Worthing police are actively working on, that of Durrington mother Gillian Bhatt.

Mrs Bhatt, who was 50 when she vanished from her Shelby Road home on September 22, 2007, has made no contact with her husband and three sons, despite appeals.

Mrs Bhatt is believed to have left home with a holdall and there were withdrawals from her bank accounts in the Lake District, Carlisle, Preston, Glasgow and Edinburgh around April, 2008, but nothing after that time.

According to PC Lauren Jeffrey, who works on missing person cases, Mrs Bhatt may have intentionally set out to disappear, but it is very out of character and police are concerned for her welfare.

Poster campaign

PC Jeffrey said: "We have been doing various investigations, but there have been no recent developments.

"It is unusual behaviour as she was a home-bird.

"There was a sighting on CCTV in October, 2007, but the images were not wonderful.

"We have been working closely with other police forces and have put a stop on her bank account so if there is any activity we will be able pick her up. We have also contacted hostels."

PC Jeffrey is working on a local poster campaign at Sainsbury's and Boots to raise Mrs Bhatt's profile and by March the aim is to give her case more coverage both regionally and nationally.

Appeal

Anyone with information about Mrs Bhatt's disappearance is asked to contat Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
