THIS year’s Durrington Festival will include the addition of a community award in memory of the festival’s former chairman.
Following the death of 50-year-old Peter Bloxham, Durrington Festival committee chairman from 2007, it was unanimously decided to create an award to pay tribute to him.The festival’s Youth Achiever Award has been extended to include nominations of anyone who works, lives or contributes to the wider Durrington community.
Peter died last June, four days before the Durrington Festival 2011 finale event.
Zoe Merry, the festival’s press officer, said: ”For 2012, the committee decided they wanted something permanent to remember and recognise what Peter did for not only the festival but Durrington as a community. So the Peter Bloxham Community Award was born. It seems very fitting that this award is named after Peter as he did so much for the community himself.”
Zoe added: “We as a committee miss Peter a great deal and will never get over the loss.
“But it seems fitting to recognise a man who did so much for others and asked for nothing in return.
“He shall remain in our thoughts and hearts.”
