New cafe could restrict events held in Bognor's Hotham Park

Concerns have been raised about the siting of a new cafe in Hotham Park in Bognor Regis.

Pistachios in the Park has been given the right by Arun District Council to open a new branch in the well-used
open space.

But Hotham Park Heritage Trust is concerned about the location of the eating house.

Its chairman, Rosemary Warren, said at Monday’s town council meeting: “The public have had no say in where the cafe should be sited.

“We feel consultation should take place to ensure this cafe is placed where the public want it.

“The place where the cafe is proposed will see vehicle movements right into the heart of the park where children should be safe to run around,”
she said.

“Consideration should also be given to the many disabled and elderly people who enjoy walking around the park.

“The site is also in the most prominent part of the arena area and would cause a considerable reduction in the area in which events are held.”

Bognor Regis Civic Society chairman Laurie Barnes said it backed the trust.

Cllr Paul Wells, the town’s deputy mayor, said the issue would be raised with Arun at a meeting next month.
