New cancer unit is opened at Goring Hall Hospital

Known as the Mulberry Suite, the ribbon on the new, purpose-built department at the BMI Goring Hall Hospital in Bodiam Avenue, was cut by Worthing mayor Ann Barlow.

At the event, she said: “I am delighted to be here and be present at the launch of this much-needed service. I am aware this service has been delivered here for a few years, but to now be housed in a purpose-built unit will enable patients to come here and have their treatment in a very nice environment.

“It is also great from a social perspective, as patients can meet with others who are at different stages in their treatment.”

The oncology department at BMI Goring Hall Hospital offers chemotherapy, blood transfusion and pain management.

In June, it was blessed by Penny Giles, a former patient who has now been ordained as a deacon at Chichester Cathedral.

Oncology lead and outpatient department manager, Karen West said: “This facility is much-needed and we are really over the moon that it has finally come together, for our patients and so we can deliver an enhanced service that Worthing can be proud of.

“We’re delighted to welcome back patients past and present and without them and their passion to support us this would not have happened, so thank you. We hope the new unit continues to offer a tranquil yet friendly environment for our patients to receive their treatment.”
