The project is being carried out with the support of Ferring Parish Council and Arun District Council.

At 10am on Thursday, January 7, members of Ferring Conservation Group will meet at the Glebelands Recreation Ground in the village to plant 13 apple trees, all Sussex heritage varieties, plus two pear, two plum and two cherry trees.

The aim is that the varied orchard can be added to in future years.

The fruit trees have been sponsored by a number of members of Ferring Conservation Group, with the group buying two and Ferring Country Centre, which is supplying the trees, offering to donate another.

The trees and necessary stakes will be delivered to the site by Ferring Country Centre and help with planting is likely to be given by some of its clients.

Anyone interested in helping on the day should take along a spade and wear suitable clothing and footwear.
