New council leader ‘privileged’ to take role

COUNCILLOR Dan Humphreys was confirmed as Worthing Borough Council leader after fellow councillors voted him in on Monday night.

A special meeting of the full council was called to ratify Mr Humphreys as leader, after Conservative members put him forward for nomination.

He said: “I am privileged to be leading Worthing Borough Council at a time of such profound change.

“We are seeing economic growth supported by growing cultural diversity and the sense that Worthing is really ‘getting on’ with driving out of the recession.

“There will be challenges ahead, I’m certain. However, I’m confident that the Council is developing an incredibly solid base on which to deliver its ambitious agenda of economic and social improvement for everyone living and working in the Borough.”

Previous leader Paul Yallop was thanked for his work by councillors and he praised Mr Humphreys as a young and able replacement.

Lib-Dem leader Keith Sunderland added his support.
