New Durrington hospice hosts first chapel blessing

A COUPLE keen to cherish every moment they have together were blessed in a moving ceremony.

David Gardener, 69, and his wife Pauline, 66, were last Wednesday the first couple to have their marriage blessed in the new chapel at St Barnabas House hospice, in Titnore Lane, Durrington.

The day was particularly poignant as David has cancer of the liver and now lives at the hospice.

The couple, of Shelley Road, Worthing, were married 16 years ago.

Pauline said: “My husband has got terminal cancer and I think maybe it is the last party we will have.

“We take every day as it comes and we just wanted to spend a special, beautiful day together.”

Janet Parsons, from the hospice, said: “We were delighted and honoured they chose the new St Barnabas for their special day. It was a lovely and very joyful occasion.”
