The café will be run by the Royal Voluntary Service Coastal West Sussex at the Chesham House Centre in South Street, Lancing.

Service manager Annick Lynn said space for the café had been created by removing walls to open up the area.

The walls were taken down in early June and now the café is almost complete.

Annick said it had taken a little while to create as they had not wanted to close the centre while the work was in progress.

“Little by little, things are happening and we hope to be opening soon,” she added.

The centre is the perfect place for lonely older people to pop in to meet new friends.

Annick said: “Everyone tells us what a lovely friendly place it is and they can feel the warmth in the atmosphere when they walk in.

“Many new friendships have been formed, it’s always good to know that people care about you.”

She already has a team of volunteers to help in the café but is hoping to find more.

“I am looking for some new recruits to join our lovely team of volunteers,” she explained.
