New Maplin store in Worthing reports strong trading

BARGAIN hunters have been clamouring for some of the latest electric gadgets on offer at the new Maplin store in Worthing.

Specialising in a wide range of electrical goods and appliances, the company, which has more than 180 branches across the UK, selected Worthing as only its second store in the county.

Nearly 100 people applied for the store’s nine jobs at its site on the premises which had been vacant for some time since the closure of the former branch of Argos.

Store manager Andy Bird believed there had been an extremely strong reception to the company.

He said: “It has been going very well here in our first few weeks and a lot of people have been saying how grateful they are that Maplin has come here.

“Many customers recognise our assistant manager Dawn Manning who previously worked at our Brighton store.

For our opening weekend we had queues right down the street. We had offers on Android slate tablets which are similar to IPads, and our USB turntables having also sold well, as have portable computer hard drives that we are stocking.

“The feedback that we have been getting has been excellent,” said the manager, who said since the departure of the Tandy store in Worthing, there had been a genuine gap in the market for a specialist electrical store. For more information visit www.maplin.co.uk
