New speed limit in Washington

A 30 miles-per-hour speed limit will be enforced in Washington following years of campaigning.

The new limit follows a public consultation in November, and came into force on Monday.

Previously, only the national speed limit had applied, allowing motorists to travel at potentially dangerous speeds.

A spokesman from Washington Parish Council said the ‘de-restricted limit’ encouraged motorists to use the village as a ‘quick cut through’ between the Washington roundabout and the A24 at Glaseby Lane.

They added that the council was satisfied with the decision.

Sussex Police will enforce the new limit.
