New West Sussex online advice service for young people

A NEW online advice and support service for young people has been launched on the Your Space West Sussex website.

Initially launched as a pilot, the service will have information shop staff online from noon to 2pm and 3.15pm to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, to answer enquiries via the Your Space website.

Young people can go online to ask any questions that they would normally speak to the Information Shop about, for example:

-Where to go for advice on housing

-Sexual health concerns

-Job related concerns

-Legal advice

-Self-esteem and wellbeing

The service uses West Sussex County Council’s safeguarding policies so young people are protected online and can be assured that their conversations are being managed professionally.

West Sussex County Council cabinet member for children and families Peter Evans said: “Our information shops are well used across the county, but sometimes people aren’t always able to visit a place in person. This online chat facility direct with advisors is a great way of being able to find out information at the tap of a button.”

If the service proves to be a success, then the plan will be to extend the times that people can chat online.

To use the service, visit www.yourspacewestsussex.co.uk, type your name in the box, and wait for the next available adviser to chat to you
