Newsagent being driven out of business by regular thief

Obi Ibeji, 54, of Super News, in the Guildbourne Centre, Worthing, has had to resort to camping outside the back of his shop early in the morning to stop the thief stealing papers and magazines.

By doing so, he caught the thief in the act, and made a citizen’s arrest, but despite masses of CCTV evidence, the thief still returns.

Mr Ibeji said: “If it continues, honestly, it will be too much for me, and I will tell my landlord I am backing out.

“I am losing sleep, and the temptation is always there to go and grab him. But my wife doesn’t want me to keep doing it.”

The papers are delivered into an industry-standard container, which is secured with a universal lock.

This enables delivery drivers to quickly unlock each container quickly, and with one key.

But Mr Ibeji said this makes it easier for the thief to break-open.

Mr Ibeji said: “I’ve even had the fire service out once, as the container was set alight.

“It’s all on CCTV, the same guy doing all of this. But nothing has stopped him doing it.”
