She said: “The Night to Remember is always such a fun evening, and there is a great atmosphere. The marshals at the checkpoints are so friendly and encouraging, cars beep and night-revellers out on a Saturday night in Worthing cheer us as we make our way along the promenade.

“I have always been really happy to offer my support to St Barnabas House. Then in November 2014, my dad, Barry, was sadly diagnosed with mesothelioma and given six months’ life expectancy.

“Despite his participation in asbestos cancer treatment trials at St Barts’ Hospital, London, he sadly passed away last September at St Barnabas House. I got to experience first-hand the truly compassionate care that the hospice provides.”

Eurotherm has supported St Barnabas House as one of its charities of the year for the last four years and over the last two years, the firm has raised a total of £10,000.

People don’t have to walk to take part, as the hospice is urgently seeking additional volunteers.

More than 200 male and female volunteers are needed in total for the fun-filled night. There are a variety of roles available along the route between Worthing and Shoreham, including marshalling, event set up, registration, issuing medals, handing out refreshments and the finish line cheer squad.

People can join them for a few hours or the entire night from 9pm to 8am.

Event organiser Kerry O’Neill said: “In particular, this is a great opportunity for local men to get involved so we would love to hear from any fathers, brothers, uncles, granddads, sons and nephews who can help to ensure these amazing women are able to complete the event’s three routes.”

Amanda Gibbs, 51, a teaching assistant at Whytemead Primary School in Worthing, signed up to help at last year’s Night to Remember walk and has continued to volunteer for both St Barnabas House and Chestnut Tree House hospices ever since.

Amanda said: “St Barnabas House do such an important job and help so many people. If anyone can help out at the Night to Remember, I can guarantee they will have a lot of fun, meet lots of lovely people and be doing something really great to help their local community.”
