Nine sites sought for travellers

A need to identify nine permanent sites for gypsies and travellers within Arun, to meet a central government requirement, is set to be at the top of agenda of a meeting of the Joint Western Arun Area Committee which takes place in Bognor Regis next week.

As part of its county and district-wide response, town and parish councils have also been asked to provide information of possible land, from one-pitch sites of a quarter of an acre up to sites which could accommodate at least nine pitches.

Other items under discussion will be an update on talks with Tesco concerning its delivery lorries restricting the flow of traffic at its Express stores in Aldwick Road, Bognor and Pagham Road, Nyetimber.

Also set to be discussed is the joint West Sussex County Council and Arun District Council initiative to tackle the nuisance caused by commercial traders selling multiple vehicles on the public highways.

Members of the committee are expected as well to debate proposed student car parking in London Road coach and lorry park, to alleviate on-street parking problems in roads adjacent to the Bognor Regis campus of the University of Chichester.

Other agenda items include the acceptance of a Bognor Regis regeneration progress statement on the work of the Bognor Regis Task Force and any items raised by town and parish council representatives.

The meeting takes place at the studio at the Regis Centre in Belmont Street on Wednesday, October 31, at 7pm.
