THANK YOU: Firstly, Thank you to the Observer for such a fabulous centre page spread with coverage of Ninfield Carnival last weekend. The photos taken by our famous friend, John Dowling, were, of course, brilliant, and we are all really grateful for the full report; Next week we might have more news about the funds raised at the Carnival towards Local Projects and causes, because all profits, after costs, go back into the Village. I'm sure it'll be good news, hundreds and hundreds of lovely people enjoyed a sunny event, and spent their pennies accordingly. We all wish Bexhill Carnival the very best of luck this Saturday, keep doing the Sun Dances and hope all goes well for participants and organisers alike. Our Carnival Queen, Holly White, and her Court, Sophie, Freya, Rose and Brianne, will be joining the Bexhill Procession and, again, proudly representing the village. I'm looking forward to cheering them and all the other floats on, with my Esteemed Mama, in Buckhurst Road. See you there. Ninfield always has '˜a lot of lovely stuff going on' to quote a visitor last week and this weekend sees another well-known event taking place in the fields behind Elm Cottage, Marlpits Lane. It's the Ninfield Music Festival with the Prom Concert featuring the Eastbourne Concert Band today, Friday evening and the gig with six bands throughout the afternoon and evening, tomorrow, Saturday. I have been told by Carol Holland that the gig tickets are sold out but, they will review the Ins and Outs throughout the evening, so a rolling replacement up to the maximum could be your chance to go and buy a ticket for a shorter time, it's definitely worth a look if you can get there. Anyway, on to what else is happening over the coming weeks and hopefully there won't be any errors along the way. Sorry if I repeated a date that had been and gone blame the last, sleep deprived brain cell. Having caught up a little now we might fare a bit better.

HOOE GARDEN PARTY: The organisers, the parish council and the PCC would like to thank everyone who attended the Queen’s Church Garden Party on Saturday July 16, held in the grounds of St Oswald’s Church in Hooe. With thanks too, to all the helpers, whose hard work on the day ensured a good time was had by all and a magnificent £1,720 raised towards the Church funds. Jack Rist, one of the Church Wardens, has also contacted me to say that St Oswalds have been awarded the sum of £32,700 as a grant from the Government funded Listed Places of Worship Roof Repair fund; towards the repairs of the Church Nave roof, with the PCC having to find the other £20,000.The oldest part of the Church dates back to before the Norman Conquests, and the village of Hooe and its residents hold the building dear to their hearts. There is a lot of goodwill and support, with many groups and societies using the church and the grounds for events, leisure activities and working parties. The Tower also houses five bells, which have their own team of ringers, with visiting bands coming in from time to time. If anyone would like to make a donation towards the restoration and redecoration of this lovely Church, please contact Jack on 01424893576 or Simon Patisson on 845087.

HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY: Thanks to Rose for the following. On Saturday August 20, from 2.30pm in the Memorial Hall, the horticultural society will be holding the annual Summer Show. There is a wide variety of classes, for everyone to have some fun with, and Rose is asking for more village residents to really go for it, and enter at least one class this year! Schedules are available in the Lower Street Stores, and if any new entrants would like some help or advice, please call Rose on 892422.

BOWLS CLUB: The latest from Carole Lawrence at the club house. On Wednesday July 20, the team played at Home against Gullivers in a League game so points were up for grabs again. Luckily our players were really on form and beat the visitors 76-57, gaining 10 points for the table. Unfortunately, on Saturday July 23, the fortunes were reversed against Northiam in another League match. Ninfield lost 48-95, on a sultry afternoon with very little breeze, and didn’t pick up any points at all. Sunday’s game will be reported in next week’s column as Carole is having a quick break, visiting family, good for you. And onwards and upwards team.

CHURCH SERVICE: This coming Sunday, at 9.30am, sees a combined church service with the Methodist Church and Parish Churches of Ninfield and Hooe, all coming together in worship; with the Parish Eucharist service being held in St Mary’s, Ninfield, Church Lane. Everyone is warmly invited to come and join the representatives from all churches at this Summer United service.

DEFIBRILLATORS: These invaluable pieces of emergency first aid equipment can be located and accessed 24/7/365, at the Kings Arms PH-entrance wall Ninfield; and the Red Lion PH front wall, Hooe. Instructions are within the packs and are easy to follow if the need arises.
