Noisy tenant able to collect seized items

THE noisy neighbour who had 36 items confiscated from her flat, after continually breaking a noise abatement order issued by the council, has been told she can collect the items.

Environmental protection officers had 28 days from the date of seizure, which happened in the first week of August, to decide if further action should be taken.

An environmental health officer said: “The decision was made not to prosecute the subject, taking into consideration, among other factors, the subject’s behaviour following the seizure, the effect being had on the public, the associated cost of undertaking court proceedings and that the property is now empty.”

The items, which were seized from a first-floor flat in Rowlands Road, Worthing, included large speakers, DJ decks and televisions.

Neighbours had made numerous complaints, over a period of months, about the bass-heavy noise coming from the property, which resulted in one resident being sent home from work due to a lack of sleep.

Others said the disturbance made them feel anxious.

The tenant can collect the equipment once the council’s reasonable costs have been paid.

Should the equipment not be collected, it will be stored for six months before being disposed of.
