Bonfire Society: Plans are underway for this year’s Bonfire Procession and Fireworks on Saturday 24th October, and anyone wishing to take part will need to be a member of the Society by the end of August. The next meeting of the Society is in the Rose & Crown on Monday at 7.30pm, and prospective members are very welcome to come along and see what happens. As well as helping to put on our own event, Northiam Bonfire Society supports other local Societies’ events throughout October and November in our distinctive Highwaymen’s costumes. Footpath Group: Meet in the surgery car park at 9am on Wednesday to join the Footpath Group’s walk which will be 8 miles starting from Alfriston Willow Street Car Park, which is a pay and display so it’s a good idea to share transport! Another Day on the Downs to find the Long Man (didn’t know he was lost!!) will break for a pub lunch.

Coffee Stop: Pop into the Church Centre on Wednesday mornings to catch up with the news. Coffee Stop is open from 10-12.

Donsmead: The most recent plans for the Donsmead development are on display in the Parish Office on Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9am – 1pm. In addition, they will be on display in the Jenkins Room of the Village Hall on Thurday 13th August 3.30pm – 7pm. Mr Paul Lemar, Head of Planning for the developer, Persimmon Homes South East, will be available in the afternoon to answer any questions regarding this application and will then be attending the Parish Council meeting which will follow (at 7pm) when the development will be on the Planning agenda.

Children’s Club: St. Mary’s Church’s Holiday Club for Primary School will be held on 26th-28th August, and the theme will be Polar Explorers! The church will be turned into a polar exploration base camp and with the help of Sir Random Finds and Bare Feet, the children will be explorers who go on a mini-expedition each day and learn about a New Testament character. Polar Explorers is for children aged 5 -11 years and Sarah White is taking bookings – 253118. The cost is £10 for the three mornings for the first child in a family and £5 for subsequent children. This includes all activities, a drink and a mid-morning snack. A film show is planned for one afternoon and a BBQ one evening for the whole family.

Open Gardens: South Grange, the home of Linda and Mike Belton, on Quickbourne Lane, will be open under the National Garden Scheme on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd August, 11-5pm, with light refreshments on offer, and plants on sale. This is a 1½ acre garden with year round interest including annuals, perennials, grasses, shrubs, trees and a wildlife pond. The garden is wheelchair accessible, and there is parking nearby. Entrance is £3.50.

Quizzes: September brings the quizzing season to a start, with the Village Hall Trust in Northiam on 19th, and the Conservative Association in Beckley on 26th. Both are £7 with a ploughman’s at half-time, so book the dates and get your thinking caps on!!
