Now more will be able to Box it!

KERBSIDE recycling is to be extended to homes in Peacehaven, Telscombe Cliffs and East Saltdean next year.

Lewes District Council has won a Government grant of more than 500,000 to widen its Box-it kerbside recycling programme which has proved popular in Lewes, Newhaven and Seaford.

Recyclable materials such as paper, cans, plastic bottles and clean foil are collected from outside people's homes by electric vehicle.

The council plans to buy five more of the eco-friendly vehicles to add to its current fleet of three.

Andy Bryce, recycling service manager for the district council, said: 'I'm delighted we can expand this scheme - it's extremely popular with our residents who told us in a recent survey that recycling and care for the environment were among their top priorities.

'Our recycling staff are totally dedicated and it is their hard work in particular that has helped us roll out this brand-new service in such a short time and make this scheme a reality.

'We would like to encourage everyone to play their part in recycling, either through the kerbside collections or at one of the 106 mini-recycling centres throughout the district.

'Our thanks go to everyone who has joined the scheme already.'
