Number of house burglaries up in Worthing

THE highest number of house burglaries for a "considerable" period was recorded at the weekend with 11 Worthing homes being broken into.

In light of the spate of thefts, Worthing Police has made a plea to homeowners to ensure their properties are securely locked at all times.

Sergeant Ian Kerr, of Worthing Police, said: "That is pretty high for us, it's the most I can remember for a considerable time, so we just want people to be aware that their house is at risk if they don't do certain things.

"My main concern is that people need to lock their sheds up, as some thieves have been taking implements from people's unlocked sheds, and using them to break into the house.

"They also need to make sure their back doors are properly locked, and keys are not left in doors."

Sgt Kerr said north Durrington was the worst affected area, and urged anyone who had seen somebody acting suspiciously, or carrying items like televisions or laptops down the street, to get in touch.

The burglaries included:

'¢ A house in St Valerie Road was broken into between 9am and noon on Friday. Items taken included a Playstation 3, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, Asus laptop and cameras.
