Alternative strategies on pay

I READ the plea from Chris Earwaker (Unison branch secretary) for council tax payers to pay a little more to keep his members in work with amusement.

Can I suggest some alternative strategies which would have the same effect?

Firstly, what about freezing the pay of all public sector employees until such time as their average salary matches that of the average salary in the private sector?

Secondly, what about doing away with the final salary pensions which largely only the public sector can afford (funded by the rest of us)?

Thirdly, introduce more discipline in to the public sector workplace to ensure that "sickness days taken" fall into line with the private sector.

Next, let's get rid of some of the "non-jobs" which we so frequently see advertised, and finally, merge Adur and Worthing councils under one roof and rationalise staffing levels.

These disciplines would have the same effect and will save the long suffering council tax payers from having to dip into their pockets again!
